Oasis / Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo competition 2002, distinctive entry |
![]() |
This awarded proposal for a new Egyptian museum next to the pyramids of Giza is the result of a careful reading of the site. It uses and intensifies the view and qualities of the magnificent hilltop site. The museum is divided in three wings placed on three terraces along the height lines. At the core of these wings is a cool and green public space; the oasis. The museum is entered through the oasis and public programs such as shops, restaurants and ticket booths are positioned directly adjacent to it. Strategically positioned cuts open up the building and connect it to the surrounding landscape. Multiple routings enable a differentiated viewing of the extensive collection. total area : 86.200m2 |
